Frequently Asked Questions

Woman with laptop choosing virtual therapy with Alyssa Davis in Massachusetts.

Are virtual sessions just as effective as in-person?

It really depends on your preference and what you can commit to. Virtual appointments for individual therapy can actually help people who struggle with trauma, anxiety and body image decide to access therapy. There is emerging evidence that shows it is just as effective as in-person therapy.

Can I work with you if I don't live in Massachusetts?

Unfortunately, not yet. Currently my social work license only allows me to work with people that are physically located in the state I'm licensed in, which is Massachusetts. There is a bill in the works that hopefully will change this- but not yet!

You don't take insurance- so do I have other options?

I accept Health Savings Accounts and you might have reimbursement benefits from your insurance company. This means you would pay me directly and then submit paperwork to your insurance to get a percentage of reimbursement.

To find out if your insurance provides reimbursement, call your plan to see if they "out-of-network reimbursement for behavioral health."  If they need to know my qualifications you can tell them I'm a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, I'm located at 923 Route 6A, Yarmouth Port, MA and my NPI number is 1730473638.

Tell them I will be using the CPT Codes 90837 and 90834 for individual therapy.  If you have coverage, ask them the percentage of the fee that they will cover and double check if they require a deductible or if there is a maximum amount that is reimbursable.

Lastly, ask if they cover in-person and/or video therapy sessions. Please be aware if you want to qualify for reimbursement you will have to have a diagnosis.
